For
Immediate Release First Accelerated Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjuster Training Program A Smashing Success Sacramento,
CA
(July 14, 2004) - On June 7,
2004, twenty six (26) students began training in Rancho Cordova,
California to become Workers’ Compensation Claims Examiners. Funded
through the collaborative efforts of the California Department of
Insurance, the California Workforce Development Division and
SETA/Sacramento Works, in partnership with Workers’ Compensation
Training Consortium members IEA and ETi, the Accelerated
Workers' Compensation Training Program continued for twenty (20)
business days and on Friday, July 2, all 26 students successfully
completed their course of study and received their certificate of
completion. Speaking
of the high completion rate, Richard Coskren, one of the Workers’
Compensation Training Consortium (WCTC) founding members and Insurance
Educational Association (IEA) President and CEO remarked, “The high
completion rate can be directly attributed to the talent and commitment
of the students and instructors and the student selection and screening
process conducted by SETA\Sacramento Works, Inc. staff.” From an
original group of 120 potential candidates, 80 were interviewed and
screened to identify 26 students who would have a high likelihood of
success in completing the program and receiving a subsequent job offer.
Five
(5) organizations that contributed WCTC scholarship support (G. S.
Levine Insurance Services, Majestic Insurance, JT2 Integrated
Resources, Zenith Insurance Company and the San Diego Insurance
Adjusters Association) and six (6) organizations that provided active
recruiting and placement support to the project in Rancho Cordova (Inservices
Inc., Adventist Health, Claims Management, Inc., Zurich - North America,
Kemper Insurance Company [now Broadspire] and Sutter Health) were given
first choice to hire these graduates. Multiple placement activities are
now underway. Three
(3) WCTC members were actively involved in the development and delivery
of the training. IEA
coordinated and funded development of 17 days of technical training.
The Employee Training
Institute (ETi) developed 3 days of claims-desk-focused general
business skills training. IEA provided Jo Thackrey and ETi provided
WCTC’s own Steve Thompson, from Strategic
Industry Partners/G.S. Levine as instructors. Steve
Thompson, another WCTC founding member, commented, “Now that the
concept of an accelerated program has proven to be an effective means of
building a pool of talented, trained and motivated workers’
compensation claims adjuster new hire candidates, we hope to run more
industry and/or state funded programs. As a matter of fact, the next
program, a mix of weekday evening and Saturday classes, will be
conducted from September 2 through December 18.” For

For
Immediate Release New Workers' Compensation Training Program Offered San
Diego, CA (March 14, 2004) - A major cog affecting the gears of commerce
in California is the state of our Workers’ Compensation industry
today. Business closures…business relocations out of state…medical
costs...insurance rate increases... impact all our lives both personally
and professionally.
There are myriad causes too numerous to mention.
One distinct area that stands out in neon lights is the industry’s
lack of qualified Workers' Compensation Personnel, i.e., the growing
shortage of Workers' Compensation Examiners and the dearth of a new
source of qualified applicants. In
response to this challenge, the Workers’ Compensation Training
Consortium announced today that a specialized workers' compensation
training program will be offered in San Diego beginning June,
2004. The program is designed for participants who wish to pursue
employment as a Workers’ Compensation claims examiner, and will run
from June 7, 2004 though July 2, 2004. Working
in partnership, the Insurance Educational Association (IEA)
and its member organization, the Employee Training Institute (ETi)
have developed the Accelerated Workers' Compensation Program (AWCP),
an accelerated training
program for entry-level workers' compensation claims examiners.
This program was developed exclusively in response to the Insurance
Industry's urgent need for qualified entry level claims examiners.
Quoting Richard A.
Coskren, President and CEO of the IEA, "successful graduates of
this course will earn the Accelerated Workers' Compensation Claims
certificate, which prepares them for a career in the Workers'
Compensation industry." The
cost of the three-week program is approximately $4,025, and scholarship
and loan information is available at the Training Consortium's website.
Additionally, the Consortium is exploring opportunities for participants
to receive tuition reimbursement up to 80% of the program cost. Leilani
Atwood, Spokesperson for the Workers’ Compensation Training
Consortium, indicates that the group is "pleased to be able to
introduce this program to the San Diego community and looks forward to
offering additional programs elsewhere in California." About
